What are HGV Skills Bootcamps?

Leicestershire County Council have announced that they will be delivering HGV Skills Bootcamps The training courses will be funded by Leicestershire County Council via the Department of Education.

HGV Skills Bootcamps are flexible courses lasting for up to 16 weeks and are suitable for individuals who would like to become an HGV driver, or return to lorry driving or even upgrade your licence or qualifications.

How much do they cost?

The Skills Bootcamps are FREE for individuals and include all of the costs for:
  • getting a provisional licence, including your medical exam.
  • undertaking physical and virtual training.
  • taking each of the 4 Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) tests.

Who Are Skills Bootcamps in HGV Driving For?

  • Unemployed individuals receiving benefits who do not currently hold an HGV Cat C or C+E licence and seeking employment as a HGV Driver
  • Employed individuals whose current employer can offer them a new role as an HGV Cat C or C+E driver upon licence completion

Am I Eligible for an HGV Skills Bootcamp?

Legal Requirements

  • Unemployed individuals receiving benefits who do not currently hold an HGV Cat C or C+E licence and seeking employment as a HGV Driver
  • Employed individuals whose current employer can offer them a new role as an HGV Cat C or C+E driver upon licence completion

Career Commitment

  • Be committed to working as an HGV driver after completing the course

Medical Requirements

  • Be able to pass a DVSA medical examination
  • Blood pressure medication is acceptable if the condition is well controlled
  • Neurological conditions, even if managed with medication, may disqualify candidates
  • Eyesight in both eyes must meet DVLA/DVSA standards, with or without corrective lenses
