What is a Class 1 licence?

A Class 1 licence is the legal requirement for driving a light or heavy goods vehicle, weighing up to 44 tonnes. The Class 1 licence comes after you’ve obtained your Class 2 licence, which is a legal requirement for driving articulated vehicles. Obtaining a Class 1 licence automatically opens the door to many opportunities in terms of good pay, a good job and being an essential asset to a company that depends on its truck drivers. Before completing training for this type of licence you must already be in the ownership of a full or provisional licence, CPC Driver Licence and a passed theory test, have taken and passed a medical exam and be at least 18 years old.

Why would I need a Class 1 licence?

Once you have obtained the two legally required licences, Driver CPC and Class 2, you can move onto getting and training for your Class 1 licence. You will need this licence if you want to drive any type of heavy goods vehicle. Once you have the next licence you can progress into a driving career, driving vehicles such as long-distance lorry drivers, package delivery driver or a waste truck driver.
